PHARMACOLOGY 1

  1. MEDICATION: a drug used for a therapeutic effect that can be prevented or treatment of a disease.
  2. SCHEDULE II DRUGS: drugs most likely to cause dependence than schedule V drugs.
  3. MED WATCH: It is used for identifying adverse effects of a drug in general population.
  4. The most common symptom of a HYPERSENSITIVITY reaction of a drug: URTICARIA AND HIVES.
  5. A TOXIC REACTION : It is a severe adverse effect for ex: liver and kidney damage.
  6. There is a increase risk of toxicity of topical agents in infants.
  7. In men when taking aspirin they experience problems due to decrease gastric emptying means that it allows aspirin to have prolonged contact with lining of stomach causing increase potential ulceration and increase absorption.
  8. For INSULIN injection patient should: The goal is patient focused, self administered insulin injection 2 weeks after initial training.
  9. For Vaginal medication: patient should remain supine with hips elevated for 5 to 10 minuted . Why? to keep the instilled medication in contact with vaginal mucosa.
  10. METERED -DOSE INHALER: hold your breath and exhale slowly following medication adminstration . Why; because it allows the medication to settle in pulmonary tissue.
  11. STEROID INHALER: the mouth must be rinsed with water to remove any remianing drug and prevent fungal overgrowth.
  12. NEBUILIZER: patient in sitting position to allow maximum lung expansion.
  13. RECTAL ADMINSTRATION DISADVANTAGE : the presence od stool in the rectum and risk of patient expelling the drug before absorption can occur and can cause variability in medication absorption.
  14. Z TRACK : WHY: IM injection because medication is very irritating. Z-TRACK method seals the track and prevent the escape of med into surrounding tissues. it stains skin or clothing.
